A couple winters ago, it was time for Nonno (“grandfather” in Italian) to have his back surgery. So we took him for the procedure; unfortunately, the surgery did not go as well as planned, and Nonno suffered a malicious spinal cord injury. Now paralyzed from the waist down, Nonno had to adjust and transition into the wheelchair life.

I was asked to write a blog about raising a child with a disability from a Dad’s perspective. At first I thought this would be a great topic. But then I was like, “what the heck is a blog”? So, after discussing what a “ blog” is, I am like, I can do this because a blog is just like talking to someone, but in written form versus spoken. I can do that because I sell for a living and can talk forever, the hard part is to make it worthy of reading. I hope you like my perspective/story.

Bullying is nothing new. For years, it was just a part of some people’s experience at school. Whether it was because a new person arrived at school that didn’t fit in with a particular crowd, or even sometimes it was just because kids were bored with the atmosphere and they saw bullying someone else as “something to pass the time”.

Which in and of itself is a story for another time. But amongst the many arduous tasks that come with pregnancy bending over is one of them. Especially having to bend over all the way to the floor! Do you know how far away that is? That’s Pluto in pregnancy language. Being pregnant is an amazing gift. Feeling a life move inside you is absolutely incredible until about midnight when you haven’t slept in a week, and your bed has turned into a torture chamber instead of the cloud of awesomeness it was just a few short months ago and all you want in this life is just to get a few hours of sleep!
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) affects millions of individuals every year. If not properly treated, it can even be life threatening to the individual and those around them. June was Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder month.
