Can you believe it? The newest research tells us that riding an exercise bike at the gym – going “all out” ten times in a row for one minute at a time (resting for a minute between sprints)- and doing that three times a week, is as good as riding a bike the regular way for 10 hours.
Yes, they say that if you go to the gym three times a week, ride “all out” ten times, each sprint lasting for just one full minute at a time with a one-minute rest in between sprints, it is just as good for you as riding a bike the regular way for 10 hours. Sign me up, already!
It has long been known that exercise reduces the risk of heart attack, stroke and diabetes. Running or cycling for hours a week has been shown to widen the network of blood vessels that supply the muscles and also boost the mitochondria (you can read more about it on my blog of two weeks ago). This helps the body tune up the fuel and oxygen delivery to muscles and also aids in removing waste from the cells. So it’s a good thing. In fact it’s a very good thing; and it takes only 20 minutes (10 riding “all out” and 10 resting) three times a week.
