If you have been watching the famous reality TV show,” Dancing with the Stars” you should be very familiar with the name “JR Martinez.” Although, even if you haven’t you still may have heard the name or at least “the talk.” People all over are talking about the war hero that has “won America’s heart” on the reality TV show, but who exactly is this man and why is he on a reality television show that only has so-called “celebrities” competing?
Unlike all of the other “celebrities” on the hit TV show JR Martinez is earning his fame through the reality TV show & was given this wonderful opportunity to share his story and has become a symbol. He was a symbol and an inspiration for all war hero veterans and their families, and now he is inspiring people all over the world with his optimistic demeanor and resilience to life’s obstacles.
In 2003, while serving as a United States Army infantryman this young war veteran was deployed to Iraq. Two months after his deployment, Martinez was driving a HUMVEE (High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle) when the left front tire ran over a landmine. Martinez ended up suffering from smoke inhalation as well as suffering from severe burns to over 40 percent of his body. After receiving immediate medical care in Germany, Martinez was eventually transferred to Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas where he spent the next 34 moments recovering and undergoing 33 cosmetic and skin-graft surgeries.
During & since his recovery JR has become a very sought after motivational speaker. He strives after sharing his message of resilience and optimism.
Within his first couple of weeks on “Dancing with the Stars” he did a performance that brought out a lot of emotion and tears for those that had a direct connection with war heroes and veterans as well as raised an awareness to all of us.
On the reality show, celebrities were asked to pick a song that meant something to them as a dramatic change in their life. JR chose “If You’re Reading This” by Tim McGraw. The video below says it all….
It’s individuals like JR Martinez that can inspire ANYONE no matter what their circumstances are.
“Thank you to all the veterans out there for all that you do.”
