The Power of Change

As the leaves transform the trees into beautiful spectacles of autumn, one can’t help but to be caught by the beauty of this change. Change is everywhere, whether it’s forced by seasons or circumstance; one can’t help but be affected by the changes with and within the world around them.

Many of us are quite adverse to change. We get comfortable when we are stuck in the mundane and ordinary. We feel relief to be able to anticipate what is coming next. We relish in feeling like we are in control. However, none of this is forever and none of this is really true.

If it weren’t for accepting change, we, as a species, would have died off a long time ago with the dinosaurs and saber-toothed tigers. So then why are we so adverse to it? Why do we allow our lives to become stagnant and our reactions monotone?

In honor of this glorious seasonal transformation, I am prepared to grab hold of change, dance with it, and gaze deeply into its eyes. I am ready to embrace ideas of new and foreign. I am ready to accept a loss of control in the end.

What in your life deserves change?

Whether it’s something tangible or a stubborn mindset now is the time to jump away from your comforts and find strength in the unknown. Personally, my change needs to come from within—from a dark and sneaky place hidden deep within my heart, slowly strangling the blood flow out of me. Although I have felt its effects for quite some time now, it wasn’t until being inspired by those golden leaves out my window that I now feel empowered to make this shift. Now is the time for the leaves to turn and fall in preparations of a new time coming, my new time coming.

There are so many things that I am ready to accomplish, yet my stagnant mindset has been tugging me back for years. Realizing that it is up to me to make the change, I catch those falling leaves softly in my hands, guiding their fall and acknowledging that it’s time.
